10 tips for internal website optimization.
Developing a website can be quit an easy job with all those WYSIWUG (What You See Is What You Get) website development tools. But one thing they don't do, is making your code optimized for search engines, search engines demands, not only meta data on you website, but also you may want to think about things like content (word density, internal linking etc.), here I will try to give you an brief overview, of some of the important things to have in mind, when optimizing your website. also I can refere to my site where all SEO online and offline tools are free to use and download.
1. Optimize Your Title Tag. Always important to remember your keywords, also in your titel tag, do never write your company name or something like that, instead use a descriptive text containing as many keywords relevant to your site subject as possible. (note: keep your titel about 60 characters). 2. Creating good content. Eventhough your main product is to sell pictures from your website, google and other search engines can't 'see' them, so you need som descriptive text content, search engines has a very complex way of reading a website for content and to find out what your site is about, so remember to use alot of good relevent keywords in your text content, (but remember to spread them naturaly). 3. What confuses search engines? Well, this is and have been a very big discussion topic for a long time now, some of the factors that can confuse search engines is javascript, using frames on pages, dynamic pages (eg. asp.net etc). Almost forgot to say that if you are using flash elements, eventhough there are text in it, search engines can't read it, so not recommented. 4. META tags. META tags are a way to describe your site for search engines, its text that is not shown on the pages. (Some people claim that google does nothing with these tags anymore, but we don't know, and I know that other sites uses them, so why not just write them anyway). META name='description' content='a well optimized short description of your page'> <META name='keywords' content='a, list, of, keywords'> 5. Robots text file The Robots.txt is a file you have on your site, not for visitors, but for search engines when they look at your site they looks after a robots file, and if it exists it is easier for search engines to index all your sites. You can generate a robot file with this software for free. 6. The thing about images I mentioned before that search engines can't read images, thats not completly true, images has an ALT tag, that makes it possible for your to put in a descriptiv text to the images, some says that google sees that, so here is the code. img src='my_image.jpg' width='50' height='60' ALT='A descriptive text in here.' 7. Text sizes. Some people also says that search engines look at text that is emphasized (eg. h1). so my theory is, if you are doing as I have done for years, just writting text and then set up the visual part in a seperate css file, then google can't se that the text is a header1 or header2 text. So what to do could be, in your website page, make the text h1 and in a css file define the h1 tag to look different. H1 { color: blue; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 16px } 8. Remember filenaming. Another thing to look at is your filename, your first page may be named default.html, but if you go to google and search for something, like 'Free SEO Tools' you can see that google also looks at sub-directorys and filenames, like. www.seo.dd-soft.com/SEO-tools-free-download-internal.aspx, this says more than just download.aspx. 9. Internal linking Always remember to link your site together, your need search engines to find more then just your front page. 10. Some personale words before you go on making a website. This last tip is not really a tip, just some words from me personally to you, I have read a lot of litteratur about SEO, and other marketing techniques, so just do not forget, depending on what your site content is, there may be other ways to market your product, it could even be done cheap or for free, be creative. Google adsense best ads placement.
Earlier I have been talking about google adsense, what it is, how to use adsense and what to expect. Now there are a couple not to say many thing you can do to increase the chances to get more visitors to click on the ads on your website or blog. There are lots of stratigies, and ways of thinking, and I guess all of them has been tried at some point, so why not learn from others experience?. Yes can choose to make a good web design and then blend in your ads so they dont bother your visitors, this may make your visitors stay longer on your site to enjoy the content. but the problem is how should you then get them to click?. I perfere to make advertisment boxes about the same color as my website and place them so they are a little in the way, yes it can bother the visitors but its all about exaggeration, making small ads in between text blocks wont get interested users confused but it would get not so interested users to click on your website ads. Also i think its better to only place one ad on each web page, and not alot of small ones around on your site, I have too often seen how this can spoil a great web design. Now some of the best ways I have seen google ads being integrated into a website is when making a border around the ads with graphics (like making google ads look like a ”post it” sticky). This is smart and stands out, and gets users to look at them. One think to remember is not to put ads at the bottom of your site if your site is long and visitors have to scroll down to see it. I think its a wast of time, because the people with the biggest chance of clicking ads are the ones not so interested in your website, and they may shut down your site even before scrolling down to see your ads. Some other things you can do is to put images next to your google ads, as our eyes are attracted to images before text, but remember not to make it look like the image has relation to the text ads because google has strict rules about that, and you can get banned. A good tips could be to put at visible border around the google ads, to indicade that that ads are seperated from the image. Warning. Google has been integrating new video ads, and yes its a very good and effectiv idea, but keep in mind not that many companies have make video ads yet, because they are so new, this means that if you put on video ada on your site, your video ads may not be shown every time yet, because there is not ads for your theme. Or maybe it will just show some not related ads on your site as a random ad instead, and we know this will not attract nor interest many users. Google PageRank drop it now
Many people sees google pagerank as a measurement tool for viewing the importance of a specific website, even other big webmasters trust pagerank to be correct, but it cant be further from the truth. For those how want an introduction to what Pagerank is. PageRank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web. Many are many aspects to consider when trying to get a higher pagerank, just to mention some of them, links to your website from others, onpage optimization, for how long your website has been online etc. its a fulltime job just trying to keep up with the adjustments made by google. Many people sees google pagerank as a measurement tool for viewing the importance of a specific website, even other webmasters trust pagerank to be correct, but it can’t be further from the truth. Google page rank has in the last year + more been very unstable, I have seen website going from a pagerank of 1 to 5 within a month, and some sites going from 8 to 2, even newly added website having quite high pageranks, without even having any traffic to their sites. So why are people still using this pagerank as a trusted tool?, well its quite simple, people still reads all the old articles on the internet saying, what a wonderfull tool it is, and people just got stuck in the old rutine, well get out of it and try to do some reasonable analysis on webpages. Note: Other people tend to use a website called alexa to see the importance of a website, this website is actually quite effectiv, or it was, now I see alot of website get highly ranked there to, because they once or twice have bought some cheap traffic and then alexa has rated them based on their visiors amount. Conclusion. So if your using eighter google pagerank or alexa to analyze websites, do it with caution, be carefull not to only use these tools, be creative instead try other ways, you may even discover new alternatives others have never thought of. For example try to see what are the most used keywords for a speciffic subject, then see what website is shown first in both google, yahoo, msn and more. 10 tips for external search engine optimization.
This article will be an brief introduction to some of the more important optimization tips for external usage, which means, not the things to do on your webpage, but things like, the importants for links to your site and what you can do. 1. Thing to keep in minde This is not really a tip, more a guideline, all the internal optimization is a good thing to do, but here is all the stuff that real matters, keep in minde this is about getting people to a speciffic destination, your website. 2. Adding your site to the big search engines. This is not necessary, its is in fact a wast of time, as I have experienced. what will happen when your site is online, is you need other sites to link to you, then when google sees that, then it adds your site to its system, and bingo. 3. http://dmoz.org/ A good thing to do is to add your site to dmoz.org, aka. open directory project. I recently found that I have a website that could not get a pagerank, or it did, it had 0, the reason was that I forgot to add my site to dmoz.org, for some reason that helped. 4. External links Here comes the most important part of Search engine optimization, links!! can't be said enough, do what ever to get other sites to link to you. 5. Does bad external links exist? No, not really, you can get irrelevant links, (people with a totally different subject) to link to you, but that does not matter, what could be bad is linkback, many places you make a deal with another webmaster to swap links, and if you have a nice product, lets say you sell SEO optimization tools, and then you swap links with an adult website, this could end up bad, cause google can see that link and may think that your site is also relevant to adult content, this is not recommented. 6. Getting links 1 One thing is that you could send out a request to other webmasters by email, trying to se if he/she would be interested in swapping links with your, but sending out 1000 email could get tough, so you could download my program 'Mass-email-sender' , its free to use. 7. Getting links 2 You could add your site to as many search engines and directories as possible, also hard work, can take a lot of time, I have a solution for this also, and yes its also free to use as much you'd like. 8. Getting links 3 An offencive approch could be to look at your competitors, to analyse stuff like, who is linking to them?, what makes them rank high in google? try looking in the tools section 9. Do not participate in link farms or link exchange programs. Search engines consider link farms and link exchange programs as spam, as they have only one purpose - to artificially inflate a site's link popularity, by exchanging links with other participants. 10. Some personale words before you go on optimizing. While reading all these theory about getting visitors to your site, have your even thougth about how to keep your visitors?, or to make them come back? did you know that most of the visitors from google are just 'suft through' visitors, which means they look at your site for a few seconds, and if it is not interesing they go to the next site. what I'm meaing to say is, be carefull many people makes mistakes by only thinking 'what does google want?' instead of 'what does my audience want? so make content for your visitors and only keep in mind optimization is a good thing. The end. This article was was a very shallow overview of the more important tips, stay tuned for my more indept articles on how to make websites link to you.
